Instagram accounts are getting banned. Yes, you heard right! I just opened instagram and in my feed every 3rd creator account is getting terminated. Creators are going crazy over it. And the frustration is genuine. Like try to be in their shoes, creating 100s of videos content from ideation to editing, posting and what you get a termination notice. All the work is waste, and if you get it back the reach is below the imagination. So the question is why it’s happening? “Are creators doing something wrong or meta has gone mad” that is what i am hearing from every creator in their videos after recovery of accounts.
So what’s the actual problem? Most of the people think that the problem is possibly the type of content but if you closely look into the account of creators from food content to travel content without even having single disturbing content is terminated so the type of content was never the problem. The problem is creators do anything for getting reach, to get into eyes of audience they have too much aesthetic user names, continues posting on trial reels (an instagram feature where content creators can publish reels on their account without physically displayed on their profiles, such reels are shown/push towards non-followers) etc which disturbs the ecosystem of instagram according to meta. In simple words meta claim these types of activities as suspicious because creators have not completed their authentication, meta treat these accounts as spam and disabled them.
So my simple question to such creators is that do they really know how the meta works? So to find out this I did a small survey. The findings shows that 90% actually did not know the algorithm, they just posted to get some reach, sometimes they might get lucky which leads to 1-2 reels/posts getting good views and engagement but that does not last.
So the problem is management. I am not saying that creators cannot on their own manage the profiles but they need a system where they meet the guidelines, work and post according to their niche which results in better engagement and community building with their audience. And do you know the most existing part? The remaining 10% accounts are managed by experts. When I say experts I am talking about social media managers, content writers, community builders, and influencer specialists. These people actually know how to kick your content to the audience.
They not only manage your profile, they manage you, embrace your best version and present it in front of your audience. They convey the message, bring life to the hooks, ensure authentication and legal guidelines. They know how the algorithm works best for you. So the best type of investment for a creator or brand is to invest in such experts. But still, if I talk about India, there are a lot of creators who seriously don’t invest in such experts. And I don’t think they are totally wrong, because in the initial stage, they think they might get good engagement by listening to social media consultants who are present on social media platforms.
But my question is, do you really think you follow those strategies exactly as they said, or do you fumble a lot while applying them? So I have a very controversial answer for this. For me, I think yes, if you listen to them and follow their strategies, roadmap from step one to the last step, you might get good results. But if you have even a subtle error in anything, it might not get you where you really want to be. And many people will say no to such experts. So we can have different opinions on such experts. But if you really want to be among the 10% of creators, then you need management, a system where you can build your community. It is applicable for both brands or a creator’s personal branding.
Why is management crucial?
Content creation is an art, a way of presenting the ideas, product or services to your niche audience and managing it is science. Whenever we talk about art and science, they both merge and create an ecosystem where the content survives. Let’s understand this with a real case example; we all are aware of samay raina’s show IGL controversy. For a moment we might all think there is no comeback but eventually he did. Now some people might assume I am talking about his still alive youtube live where he actually makes all of us sit for hours to listen to him but let’s rewind a little, are you aware of his brand ads?
After legal procedures his team made a creative move, they presented the exact image of samay we all want. He did ads with brands like boldcare, airlearn, knorr India, deconstruct skincare, urban jungle bags, boat wearables, green soul ergonomics, renee, nothing india, vastrado, and many more… and the pattern was same across every promotion – a podcast with different influencers. And guess what? The ads went viral on instagram the moment they dropped.
His management team ensures his scripts doesn’t let his humor apart in the videos, the same energy, emotion and humor was shown in each and every ad. The comeback was not the “still alive” youtube live, it was pre planned by the management team from a long beginning. And that’s the only reason he survived on the platform, because he built a community that even algorithms cannot delete. And that’s where a system played their role, the “management”.
And that’s the moment I realised the importance of managing a creator. It’s not just about views, reach, engagement. Sometimes it’s about the perspective, existence of some content that can create an impact, build trust, community with not only the audience but brands too.
